Press Freedom

When ShivSangram activists attacked "Loksatta" editor's house, that attack was promptly condemned by all the sections of society. Plenty of media-space was used for supporting press-freedom. "Strong public opinion against any move to curb Freedom of expression" is definitely a welcome sign of matured democracy. But we have to think twice while dealing with irresponsible media-outlets like "Saamana". All the limits of decent journalism were crossed by "Saamana" while publishing a front-page report about Narayan Rane.
Traditionally, "Saamana" does not believe in rational thinking. We were just speechless when "Saamana" editor said, "As per the records of home- department, Narayan Rane was hand-in-gloves with underworld gangs." Let's hope that "Saamana" editor knows that the same underworld don - Narayan Rane - had become Maharashtra chief minister because of ShivSena. Now, all that is the thing of the past. As on today, ShivSena seems to have succeeded in projecting Rane-supporters as hooligans.
It is going to be an uphill task for Narayan Rane to prove that the attack on "Saamana" was stage managed by ShivSena goons & NOT by his supporters !!!

In the process, VilasRao Deshmukh got a timely breather. Was it a help package sent to him by ShivSena supremo ? Hereafter, Thakarey-Deshmukh relationship will be similar to Thakarey-SharadPawar relationship !
