Intellectuals

What are the basic characteristics of an intellectual ? Simply being intelligent is NOT sufficient. Nowadays, nobody cares about substance. Being intelligent in form is essential. You must have an ability to exhibit your intelligence in an established intellectual format. Expressing your point in a straightforward manner may be a sign of an intelligent person; but a straightforward person will rarely be an intellectual. If audience quickly understands your point, then you can at best be a school-teacher. It's well & good if you HAVE a valid point. But even if you don't have one, just take care that nobody points it out.
"Verbose nothingness" is an essential part of intellectual debate or literature. "Agressive cynicism coupled with decent language" is a characteristic feature of an Intellectual's personality. A straightforward person will say, "Salmaan Rushdie's books look like fairy tales." But an intellectual will say, "Salmaan Rushdie has wonderful imaginations." Unless & until Rushdie scribbles "leading nowhere" type paragraphs & projects them as abstract concepts, he will not get recognition from intellectuals.
The same Salmaan Rushdie has said that he no more believes in Marriage system. In addition, he claimed that girls only want wedding & not marriage. We do not know why intellectuals are making a fuss over Rushdie's stand. Perhaps he wants to say that girls only understand the ceremonial part of marriage & they are not capable of understanding the deeper meaning of the term "marriage". You should not forget that Rushdie's conclusions are based upon his own experience of four marriages. Simply because four low calibre ladies have broken marriage ties with Rusdie, we should not brand him as a worthless fellow.
Matriarchial system - which received a severe blow in 1944 - thrives on ladies capable of taking decisions independently. Nowadays very few ladies have that much spark. Most of the ladies can only go for nagging. Such nagging wives resort to divorce & try to give us an impression that they are capable of taking decisions. For the same reason, half-baked girls reject the proposals from eligible bachelors who - in reality - are quite superior to these girls. Why do these superior bachelors propose half-baked girls ? Perhaps these smart guys cannot imagine a girl to be so thoughtless & mediocre. That's the tragedy of matriarchial system. I have put forward my point in a straightforward manner. Thank God I am NOT an intellectual !
